Money Flowchart
I made a flowchart depicting how I will manage my money before and in Japan. It only looks slightly complicated on first glance because I’m lucky to have won the JASSO “lottery” and have my parents support me, too. The whole chart could really be summed up by saying: my savings in UK pay for time until bank is set up, my savings in Germany pay for fun stuff, the rest goes into daily expenses. Anyway, here it is:

Only thing left to find out is how to move around money the cheapest way. I don’t look forward to being charged for all this.

I am totally NOT understanding your financial plan…
I think I might just open a bank account at the post office and take some cash with me until I have my 1st scholarship payment…

Do you happen to know if you’ll be able to withdraw money from the post office from day 1? My fear is that while regular bank account activation is done instantly, they send the card via mail and this might take up to 2 weeks. Would require a lot of cash brought from home to survive that long, especially during the first few days when you have to sort of stock up on things needed for the rest of the year, such as bedding and stationary items.
